We started off the vacation in London in an AirBnb on Portobello Road, but the adventure started much earlier while parking at Newark airport. Once the overnight flight arrived in Heathrow airport all 5 of us (+ luggage) packed in to an Uber and made our way to Portobello Road.
Day 1: Portobello Road and Tate Modern
Saturday market in Portobello Road s packed full of locals and tourists buying antiques, street food, clothes, maps, smoothies, keychains and hundreds of other things.
Then the rain started. We needed to move indoors and quick. So we made our way to Tate Modern Art Museum.
By the time we capped off our first day with Fish & Chips we were exhausted.
Day 2: Oxford and Harry Potter
Early morning on Sunday Sonal, Sherry and Shamim met up with our tour group for a full day tour of Oxford and Universal Studios Harry Potter World.
Oxford included a walking tour of the famous Oxford University and the beautiful campus spread over the English countryside.
After a refreshing tour of Oxford we continued our way to Harry Potter world. It was full of movie props, displays, kids shows and butter beer.
We wrapped up the day back in London right near 221B Baker Street, the famous address of Sherlock Holmes. We took turns pretending to knock on the door, since someone is probably living at the actual address.
Day 3: London Sightseeing
We saw a bunch of iconic London landmarks on this day in London. Started off seeing Abbey Road, and continued on to British Museum, Seven Dials, Trafalgar Square, Chinatown and Picadilly Circus. Also tested a camera gimble taking a variety of videos.
Day 4: Kensington Gardens & Harrods
This was an easy going day starting with a stroll through Kensington Gardens and then a walk through Harrods department store.
Day 5: Buckingham Palace
An exciting day watching the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Very interesting tradition and packed full of tourists – everyone trying to catch a glimpse of the guard change.
After an eventful morning in Buckingham Palace we took a stroll down to the Thames River to see London Eye. Unfortunately Big Ben was covered in scaffolding. On the bright side we found a red telephone booth from where we pretended to make a couple of phone calls. We also visited Westminster Abbey which had a restriction of no photos/videos.
Evening involved going to the Tower of London and then walking along Thames River and then across Tower Bridge.
Day 6: Windsor
A short day trip from London was Windsor famous for Windsor Castle.
After roaming around Windsor for most of the day we spent the evening walking through Picadilly Circus and Bond Street and saw the Christmas lights and performances of tens of artists.
Day 7: Churchill War Rooms
On the last day in London we visited Churchill’s famous war rooms, also known as, Churchill’s Bunkers.
